Focusing predominately on fresh local seafood with a French, Lowcountry flare, Charlie’s is the place for good food, good wine and unforgettable memories all enjoyed in a quaint French country atmosphere.
A Savannah native, Charlie Golson’s interest in the French language and culture took him to Paris. After a long stint in the fast paced hotel kitchens of Washington DC, he was ready to move back closer to home. It was at that time he was able to open up a one room French bistro. The restaurant has grown over the years, but the ‘Green Star’ remains steadfast in offering the finest ingredients the Low country has to offer with a menu that is hand written daily.
We were fortunate to add CHEF JOSH CASTILLO to our extended family in 2017. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Bronx Josh personifies the American tale of lifting oneself up by the bootstraps. He can attribute his culinary passion to two childhood memories: watching his Grandmother cook in her kitchen, and watching Julia Child. He began his formal training at TCL while working as an assistant mechanic at Dataw. When he saw an opening for an internship at Chechessee Creek Club, he seized the day, and was promoted to Sous Chef within a year. Josh has delighted guests with his culinary creations in some of the Lowcountry’s most recognizable kitchens. His work juxtaposes unlikely combinations while paying homage to French tradition.
Charlie’s has an undercurrent of conversation going on constantly as it seems people dine here for good food, good wine and good conversation. Charlie’s delivers on all counts! The wait staff is always attentive and helpful; going out of their way to make sure you have a great dining experience. There is always fresh, local seafood on the menu.
This is a must stop when on Hilton Head Island. We visit every time we are on the island and the food and service is consistently great. The food is expertly prepared and the wait staff is excellent. A great selection of daily specials to go with their fine menu. The cocktails are well prepared and generous. You will not be disappointed.
What a wonderful evening. Charlie’s is composed of several rooms so you don’t get the feel you are sitting in a big restaurant but a place more personal. From greeting to dessert, the service was friendly and efficient. The meal was absolutely delicious from appetizer through dessert. The best meal we had on the island. Highly recommended.
My wife and I just returned from a delightful dinner and dining experience experience at Charlie's. Our server, Jody, was a gem. The ambiance was very nice. The food and wine were excellent. I had escargot (fabulous) and the filet (melts in your mouth).
We go here every year when we visit and they never disappoint. We sat at the bar and had perseco with pate followed by the best hamburger I've ever had. The accompanying scalloped potatoes were divine. Hats off to Anthony, probably the best bartender I've ever witnessed.
We had dinner last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were greeted with a glass of champagne on arrival...wonderful gesture. Our appetizers of pate and oyster stew soup...just delicious, as were our main courses of sea scallops and grouper. Service was impeccable...attentive but not intrusive.
